TROPMEDEX offers 10-12 day Tropical Medicine Excursions for healthcare professionals to Uganda, Tanzania and Ghana (since 1995)
Why:
1. More travellers return from the tropics with tropical diseases
2. More asylum seekers come to the Western world with "unknown"
infections
3. Due to global warming tropical diseases spread to temperate
climate zones
The round-trip excursions by 4x4 drive, bus and plane are designed for maximum 13 participants (from all over the world) who wish to improve their clinical experience in tropical medicine and travelers health.
Experts from Germany and Africa supervise individual bedside teaching on-site, laboratory sessions and give lectures (in English) in various hospitals. The curriculum covers the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of the most important tropical infectious diseases. The participants get an insight into the local healthcare systems and explore the scenery and prolific flora and fauna of Africa during medical field excursions.
The TROPMEDEX excursions are supervised by Kay Schaefer (MD, PhD, MSc, DTM&H) and accredited with 60 CME hours by the Medical Association in Düsseldorf, Germany.
