Your Stage

Long before the current age of Globalisation,
with his maps and globes, Gerhard Mercator
realised the dream of an interconnected world.
A real world with real exchanges between
cultures.

„Who are you?“
In the school year of 2011/2012 a group of
young people between the ages of 16 and 19
from Duisburg and the twin towns of Ports-
mouth, Calais, Vilnius, Perm and Gaziantep
will reassess this idea of connection. 100 adole-
scents from six different cultures will devise
performances in their homeland that demons-
trate the idea of a common world.

„Where are you going?“
In the summer of 2012, the year marking the
500th birthday of Gerhard Mercator, the young
collaborators will meet in Duisburg at exactly
51° latitude. Here they will present their work
to a select public.

„If we cross ways ... !“
In the context of the project Crossroutes 51°
the performances will be synthesized and
compiled into a singular, collective work of
art. Together a bridge will be built between cultures.
During a two-week camp the young
participants will find out how they are united
in a common bond but are nevertheless
singular, culminating in a performance that
will show Duisburg their world of congress and
exchange.
