Egypt lacks functioning channels between public sector high school education and the industries’ demands for skilled workers. Based on our expert knowledge and network, GETS aims at facilitating a better exchange based on real life needs and requirements.

Experiences made in the area of certification and accreditation show that Egyptian companies develop an awareness for business development potential – something that can only be achieved through training and qualifying the staff, implementing a quality management and practicing process optimisation according to internationally acclaimed standards.
One of the often lamented weaknesses is an insufficient interface between management and technicians, leading inevitably to deterioration in process quality.
The locally available training courses for the engineering profession do not teach the qualifications demanded by industry and trade, and do not conform to international educational standards. Processes would have to be organized according to international quality standards and norms, to facilitate connecting local businesses to international value chains. But often the staff lacks the necessary competencies.
Other economic sectors that need engineering services fit to international standards suffer similar difficulties. Especially relevant for Egypt is the area of renewable energies – the country has a lot of potential for solar and wind energy, as well as a continually rising demand.

The decrease in aggregate value causes a reduced foreign trade balance as well as diminishing occupation and income. Besides, the chance for a quality oriented economic growth („green growth“) is frittered away. Youth unemployment is approximately 35%, and in theory 1 million new jobs are needed annually to provide an income for young people entering the job market.
